No. The law doesn't force anyone to register and there are no penalties. However, more services now require it and government transactions become easier with it. Most Filipinos choose to register for the convenience.
How much does it cost?
Your first ID is completely free. Registration, physical card, and digital version all cost nothing. You only pay if you need a replacement due to loss or damage.
How long is the PhilSys ID valid?
Filipino citizens get a lifetime ID that never expires. You only update it when your biometric data changes or if you need to correct information. At age 15, everyone must recapture their biometrics.

Yes. Children as young as one year old can register. Ages 1-4 only need a photo and basic information. Full biometric capture happens at age 5 with fingerprints and iris scans.
How do I track my PhilSys ID delivery?
Go to the PhilPost tracking website and enter your Transaction Reference Number (TRN). The system shows your card's current location and estimated delivery date. Most cards arrive within 2-4 weeks.
Does it replace my passport?
No. The PhilSys ID doesn't work for international travel. Your passport remains necessary for leaving the country. The National ID is for domestic use and online transactions only.
